During the evenings since July 2016, Zoo Sauvage de St-Félicien in Lac-Saint-Jean transforms into a spectacular outdoor scene infused with sound and light along the Anima Lumina trail. One evening, a young boy who could communicate with animals, followed the moon into the night and along his trail (and yours), he spoke with many different species that crossed his path. You’re at forefront of exclusive encounters in which nature comes to life in a unique and incredible fashion. Surrounded by the shadows and howls of the creatures of the night with multimedia presentations animating the many colours of the boreal forest. Moonlight illuminates the path within a mysterious and magical atmosphere. Anima Lumina is for everyone of all ages, a perfect activity for families, nature enthusiasts and those with poetry in their hearts.
A large-scale production
This unique project is the fruit of the clever work by Moment Factory, a Québec-based company with an impressive international reputation. They’ve produced a remarkable number of large-scale multimedia creations. However, because the creatures are in their natural nocturnal habitats during the Anima shows, this presentation does not feature the different varieties of animals at the zoo for regulatory reasons. Just like us, they must also sleep and rest to be ready for the next day.
It takes a team of 40 qualified individuals to carry out such a production. With help, they carried out the installation of large-scale multimedia equipment in the zoo: 70 speakers, 200 floodlights, eight projection screens and nearly 20,000 feet of wiring. The development of this illuminated trail represents a colossal workload.
Without a doubt, Anima Lumina is an extraordinary experience that will be sure to please all senses. And that’s not all! Another city in Québec is also cloaked in the magic created by Factory Moment. It’s now possible to experience a third and all new nocturnal path named Nova Lumina in Chandler, Gaspésie. In addition to Foresta Lumina with continued success of their illuminated Parc de la Gorge de Coaticook in the Eastern Townships since 2014.
Preparing for your Anima evening
Here are a few tips to make the best of your experience in the great outdoors:
The trails is 1.5 km in length, with several flights of stairs and many benches for perfect views of the show. The trail offers easy walking conditions but we do suggest bringing along proper footwear for walking and hiking;
The visit lasts for about an hour depending on how fast you walk and your personal interests for fully enjoying the immersive experience. However, you can stay in Anima for as long as you like. A tripod may be useful if you expect to take pictures since the exhibitions are lengthy;
It’s essential to bring a change of warm clothes because the evenings can be chilly, a raincoat for the unexpected and insect repellant to keep away the bugs. You can bring a lunch and water with you, but refreshments and snacks will be available for purchase at the end of the presentation;
For families with young children, considering that Anima takes place during the night, it may be beneficial for the children to sleep during the day if possible. Staff members are clearly identified and present along the entire length of the trail for guiding you along the woodland path and ensuring everyone stays safe. However, it’s not recommended to travel the trail with a stroller: infant carriers and backpacks are preferable.
Last but not least, keep in mind that this visitor experience is unique and unparalleled. Open your eyes wide and let yourself be lulled by this luminous history in the heart of the boreal forest.
Enjoy your visit!
